Literary Evening No. 5
English comics, which present the history and literature of Great Britain, will be the main content of the 5th literary evening at the British Centre of the UP Library, which will take place on Wednesday 10 April. The British Centre is once again organizing it in cooperation with the Department of English and American Studies of the Faculty of Arts of UP - the main programme will be directed by Assistant Professor Mgr. Elizabeth Allyn Woock, Ph.D. She will present a lecture entitled "Reading British History Through Comics (not just for kids!)". Dr. Woock will bring many comics with her to BC for participants to view.
The popularity of the comic book genre continues to grow. Dr Woock, who is also a comics artist, will introduce us to those English comics that focus on British history and literature. Although comics and graphic novels are more of a visual genre, it is also through them that the reader -precisely because of the condensed form of language- can improve his or her linguistic competence, in this case enriching his or her English, and, against the backdrop of engaging stories, explore in greater depth the history of Britain and the literary richness of British culture.
The British Centre will also introduce readers to its own range of English comics. These are in great demand at the Centre, both by young readers and adults, and the British Centre is keen to acquire new, attractive comic titles for its collection.
