The inaugural Summer School on the Use of Force in International Law organised by the Centre for International Humanitarian and Operational Law offers an intensive and exciting academic programme for students interested in international peace and security. The summer school will be led by CIHOL members Dr Martin Faix and Dr Marko Svičevič alongside distinguished experts, including Professor Niels Blokker (Schermers Chair, Leiden University), Professor Tamas Hoffmann (Corvinus University of Budapest), Dr Agata Kleczkowska (Polish Academy of Sciences), Professor José Alberto Azaredo Lopés (former Minister of Defence of Portugal). The summer school will examine key issues such as aggression in international law, the UN Charter system of collective security, collective self-defence, and the role of the UN Security Council in maintaining international peace and security. Through lectures, discussions, and case studies, participants will engage critically with the legal frameworks governing the use of force in international law. This summer school presents a unique opportunity for students to engage in rigorous debate, professional networking, and a deeper comprehension of the evolving challenges in the regulation of force under international law.
