Dear employees,

everything goes by, and so the last holiday newsletter is here. However, everything at the university is preparing for the new academic year, which will also include other events to celebrate 450 years of UP. At the moment of writing this text, the round anniversary is exactly 17 weeks, 1 day, 14 hours, 30 minutes and 11 seconds away.

On such an anniversary, we can reflect on what Palacký University means to us. The editors of the University Journal asked such a question to staff and students across faculties and institutes. You can read their answers in the survey on the website (in Czech).

WHAT'S GOING ON AT UP?

Briefly from the UP management meeting

At the last two management meetings (Wednesdays 9 and 16 August), the review of the credit bank, the autumn celebration of 450 years of UP and whistleblowing were discussed. Read the full summary (in Czech) (by logging in to the UP Portal), we will have more for you again in 14 days. More detailed information will subsequently be available in the minutes of the management meeting in UPShare, as well as in the minutes of other bodies, in UP standards and documents and on other information platforms.

Thanks for your patience during the IT service week

The service week of the UP Computer Centre (in Czech) brought more significant outages than in previous years. This year's more noticeable downtime of services, including e-mails and websites, was caused by a major expansion and restoration of the UP data storage, on which most applications depend. Security updates were also made to the backbone network routers. The CVT team thanks everyone for their patience and apologizes for any complications. Next year, a one-week service outage can be expected at a similar time.

Nominate volunteers for the Rector's Award

Going above and beyond the call of duty to do something for others and to give our free time and energy to improve the world around us is not a given. But without volunteers, many services, events and organisations could hardly function. That is why the University places great emphasis on volunteering and supports it by announcing the annual competition for the Rector's Award for volunteers from among students, alumni and staff of Palacký University (in Czech). You can nominate your favourite volunteer until 31 August via this form (in Czech).

INVITATIONS

Thanks to the cooperation with the AFO festival, one of the programme items of this year's UP Alumni Day (in Czech) will be the screening of the successful film Jeseníky – the kingdom of mountain wilderness (in Czech) on Saturday 9 September at 17:30 in the Metropol cinema. The screening is free of charge for UP employees, so do not hesitate to secure your seats as soon as possible in the registration form (in Czech). In the film, you will also get a glimpse into mysterious places where the average tourist cannot go, and you will learn the story of a falcon family or the pitfalls of life on the Alpine slopes.
