At the last meeting of the UP management (5 June), a new position of popularizer of science at UP was discussed. Out of 39 candidates for the speaker of this year's Fischer Lecture, the committee selected Timothy Snyder, Jiří Grygar and Tomáš Sedláček. This year, for the first time, you can nominate your favourite teacher or teachers for the new UP Teaching Awards competition. Until the end of October, you can find the Teaching Awards tile on the evaluations website, where you can enter a single name in the form. Teachers with the highest number of nominations will then move on to the next round of the competition, with a chance to win a cash prize of CZK 20,000 in the final round. Coverage of selected areas with security cameras is being introduced by the UP Accomodation and dining at the 17. listopadu dormitory. This is one of the measures that will increase the safety of residents and help prevent the free movement of strangers in the dormitory building. The installation of the cameras was carried out in accordance with the applicable requirements for the placement and operation of a camera system with recording, with maximum consideration for the students in residence. Eight Sustainability Ambassadors have been helping to spread the principles of sustainability at individual faculties of UP since April this year. They are not only a link between the central Sustainable Development Office of UP (or Sustainable University), but also a contact person you can turn to for anything related to sustainable development. Do you have any idea how many graduates our university released into the world last year? 4,547 – and the UP Alumni Club is waiting for all of them. So if you are just finishing your studies or are about to do so soon, don't forget to fill out an application form afterwards. If you already have a diploma from UP – including a bachelor's degree! – apply now. Not only will you get a nice card, but also a lot of benefits, discounts and perks tied to it, the possibility to continue borrowing books in the university library or priority invitations to events (not only) for graduates. In connection with the forthcoming reconstruction of the building on tr. Svobody 8, the Faculty of Health Sciences of UP offers for sale a number of different school and office furniture. You can buy it for your own use starting from one piece. For example, 160 chairs, 3 sofas, various wardrobes, 42 office chairs or 3 kitchen units are on offer. STUDY ABROAD

Thanks to UP's membership in the Aurora network, you can also enrol in online courses from other European universities for the winter semester. The University of Innsbruck currently offers four courses, focusing on European politics and the future, culture, sustainability and climate change. The deadline for registration is 12 July, details can be found on the Aurora website (in Czech).

Do you have a permanent residence in the Olomouc Region and would you like to study abroad? Take advantage of the scholarship provided by the Olomouc Region to bachelor and master students of selected study programmes. You can find out what you can use the scholarship for and what requirements you need to fulfil on the website of the region (in Czech) (the most important information is in the presentation). You can apply until 28 June.

VOLUNTEERING

Do you want to try organizing the biggest music festival in the streets of Olomouc? Then don't hesitate and sign up for the organizing team, which is looking for about 10 volunteers to help out. You will get a behind-the-scenes look at the festival, but also experience that may come in handy one day, for example, when organizing your own event. NEW STANDARDS

• Timetable for the academic year 2024/2025 and the timetable for enrolment of courses in IS STAG in the academic year 2024/2025 - Amendment No. 1
  This amendment to the UP internal standard, effective from 17 June 2024, (in Czech) is intended mainly for UP students, academic staff and other UP employees. It changes some terms in connection with the planned reconstruction at the UP Faculty of Education and also corrects some typos or other errors.

Do you want to become a star of the scientific sky and shine at one of the oldest international scientific competitions? Then FameLab is for you! During a three-minute stand-up, you will present your research or the scientific topic you are working on to the audience. There will also be presentation skills training and last but not least, you will meet other like-minded scientists from many different fields, which can always come in handy.
