Dear employees,
dear students,

The holidays have turned into the second half and the swifts are flying back to Africa after a three-month stay in the university town. For everyone else who is staying in Olomouc or is yet to return from their summer wanderings, here is the third holiday edition of the university newsletter.

WHAT’S GOING ON AT UP

IT Service week? Next week!

The Service Week of the UP Computer Centre falls on 12–16 August this year. During this period, there will be outages of the web, UP Portal and related applications, STAG, e-mail, single sign-on, storage, or Internet connection. View the schedule on the website.

The Uni t(r)ips guide attracts to interesting public places at UP

What to do in summer in Olomouc? Visit all the places of Uni t(r)ips! The platform, which is backed by the Communications Department, presents interesting places open to the public in and around the UP. There you will find important historical buildings, a geopark, parkland gardens, fresh panoramas or fresh gastronomy. We are constantly updating and expanding the guide, most recently adding, for example, the university's insect meadows and hotels, which you can explore by following a special map.

Last call: Nominate volunteers for the Rector's Award

Going above and beyond the call of duty to do something for others and to give our free time and energy to improve the world around us is not a given. But without volunteers, many services, events and organisations could hardly function. That is why the University places great emphasis on volunteering and supports it by announcing the annual competition for the Rector's Award for volunteers from among students, alumni and staff of Palacký University (in Czech). You can nominate your favourite volunteer until 31 August via this form (in Czech).

INVITATIONS

Hackathon: the future of the food system

Right now we are living in the Anthropocene - the age of man or the "age of the people". Growing world population and changes in climate and environment are also strongly influencing food production and distribution. The University of Naples - our partner in the Aurora network - therefore invites you to a multi-day hackathon (7-8 October online, then 21-25 October in Naples) where you will have the opportunity to think about the future of the food economy of Naples and the surrounding area and to propose projects that will ensure sustainability in the ecological, economic and social fields. Visit the Aurora website for details and the application form.
