Dear students,

Whether you are our regular readers or you are receiving the UP newsletter in your e-mail inbox for the first time, we welcome you to its first issue of the new academic year. Today, we bring you the latest news from the university, invitations to cultural and educational events and our popular competition. We also take a brief look back at the events of the last few days.

You can get to know the university from a different perspective during the upcoming weekend, when the European Heritage Days (in Czech) take place in Olomouc. Various UP departments have prepared guided tours of historical and modern spaces, interesting exhibitions, but also a lecture on nanotechnology. On Tuesday, 24 September, we will all celebrate the beginning of the new semester together during MEET UP (in Czech). Come to the embankment, where there will be concerts, workshops, a swap or presentations of student associations.

Who should receive the František Palacký Prize?

Palacký University in Olomouc regularly awards the František Palacký Prize to personalities who have achieved outstanding results in creative activities in the field of science or culture, thus contributing to the prestige of the Czech Republic and UP. You can decide who will receive the award this year. Nominate a candidate – it should be a prominent Czech or foreign personality from any scientific field or from any field of cultural activity. Send your proposals, which must include a short justification, by 15 October 2024 to prorektorkaVaV@upol.cz. The award is accompanied by a financial prize, to which the municipality of Hodslavice (FP's birthplace) and the town of Neratovice (where he lived and which is also his final resting place) have long contributed.
