At the management meeting on Wednesday, 25 September, we discussed the preparation of the project application for the Ministry of Education's call for proposals Supporting Security at Universities for 2025–2026. 4 OP JAK projects, the management report and the budget for 2024 have been approved. Read the full summary (in Czech) (after logging in the UP Portal), we will prepare another one for you in 14 days. More detailed information will be subsequently available in the minutes of the management meeting in UPShare, as well as in the minutes of other bodies, in UP standards and documents and on other information platforms.

As part of its third role, UP offers and transfers the knowledge and skills of its teachers and students of higher education to interested people throughout the Olomouc region (e.g. in secondary schools, homes for the elderly or cultural centres in villages). Become one of the lecturers of the civic university! We are currently looking mainly for lecturers in the field of law (e.g. employment law – contracting etc.), financial literacy and psychology (e.g. the art of successful conflict management). Until the end of October, proposals for the award of the Rector's Honorary Recognition of Palacký University in Olomouc to students of doctoral study programmes for an article can be submitted through the respective vice-deans. Honorary recognition can be awarded for professional articles from the current or previous year. The proposal may be submitted only by the vice-dean responsible for the agenda of doctoral studies at the faculty where the author of the professional article proposed for the award is enrolled for study, or by the director of the VŠÚ under the given conditions. The award is associated with a financial reward in the form of an extraordinary scholarship.

The Aurora European University Network connects teachers, students and researchers across countries and universities. It also offers students the opportunity to study courses at other universities - often online - to easily enhance their existing full-time studies. For the current semester, 20 students from other Aurora universities have joined the courses offered at UP, while our students are taking courses abroad remotely. Similarly, as a UP teacher, you can offer your course for the summer semester until November 15.

TALKS AND LECTURES

Pointa – a series of author talks with Olomouc academics - is back and the first meeting of this semester will play on a philosophical note. We will look at one of the key texts of Confucian philosophy - the book Mencius, whose Czech translation by Ivo Pajorek was recently published by UP Publishing House. You will find out what Confucianism actually is, how it manifested itself in the cultural and social development of (not only) ancient China, and how it influences Far Eastern society to this day, on 9 October at 5 pm at UPoint (in Czech).

Come and meet leading experts from around the world and discuss current topics in theology, pedagogy, social work, ethics and media. The fourth edition of the International Teaching Week will take place at CMTF UP from 5-8 November 2024. You can look forward to inspiring lectures, workshops and the opportunity to make new contacts. The event is open to all interested people from UP and the public.

SPORT

It is not only autumn colds that can be cured by regular exercise. Thanks to the offer of the Academic Sport Centre UP, everyone can find their favourite activity – it is really wide (in Czech). You can sign up for individual lessons, e.g. taekwon-do, power yoga, frisbee, dance or permanento (functional exercises inspired by the principles of developmental kinesiology). There are also long-term courses on offer (tennis, swimming or horse riding). You can also visit the archery range, gym or sauna. More information on the ASC UP website. (in Czech)

Fans of endurance running are invited by the Faculty of Physical Culture of UP to participate in the 46th annual UP Cross-Country Running Championship (in Czech), which takes place on Wednesday 16 October. Women will run a 3 km long course, men will run 5.5 km. Both students and employees of UP can participate, registration takes place in advance electronically (in Czech) or on the day of the race on site. The fastest male and female runners will receive not only the title of UP Champion and medals, but also material prizes and the Dean's Award of the FTK UP.

INVITATIONS

On the occasion of World Inclusion Day, Palacký University is planning a pilot edition of Inclusion Day on Thursday, 10 October 2024. The day-long event is intended to remind us how important and beneficial it is to create an inclusive and diverse culture. It will offer a joint informal breakfast for female scientists from UP, a workshop on reconciling work and personal life, a painting opening and an evening theatre performance. Brutally beautiful, but brutally neglected. Alongside the grey flood of prefabricated apartment blocks, the second half of the twentieth century also saw the creation of extraordinary, spiritual and timeless buildings that attracted attention even in the West. You can admire them at an exclusive preview of the AFOKINO series. The film will be screened on Wednesday, October 9 at 8:00 pm at the Metropol cinema. Don't forget to make a reservation for yourself and your entourage on the AFO website.

When was the last time you were in the Botanical Garden of UP (in Czech)? Autumn flowers, scents and fruits are already waiting for you there and from 15 October in the new building there is also an exhibition of works by Ondřej Michálek, a leading Czech graphic artist working at the Department of Art Education of the Faculty of Education of the UP. Come to the opening at 5 pm, the exhibition will be open until the end of January 2025.

Scientists' Night is over, but you can play the Pub Quiz (in Czech), prepared especially for this year's theme - transformation - wherever you want until the end of October. There are 56 questions from many scientific and non-scientific fields and about two hours of fun. To play it, all you need is a smart TV, a computer or mobile phone and, of course, paper and pen. Do you have a high school student at home or in your neighborhood with an interest in science, computer science, math, etc.? Offer him or her to participate in the research weekend seminar (in Czech), which will be held from 11 to 13 October in the picturesque surroundings of the Javoříčko Recreation Centre. Participants can look forward to a series of lectures by leading experts from the Faculty of Science. Equally important will be the accompanying programme, such as a knowledge quiz or afternoon outdoor activities. Accommodation and meals are included in the CZK 1,500 contribution. During the semester, Masses for students and students alike are celebrated every Wednesday at 7 pm at the University Church of Our Lady of the Snows. Each week there is a service offered for one of the faculties, the Academic Senate, the Schola, etc. In addition, the VCH also organizes lectures, quizzes, sitting sessions, debates or game night. NEW STANDARDS

• Statute of the Awards for Outstanding Educational Activities at UP

  This UP internal standard, effective from 25 September 2024, (in Czech) is intended for UP employees - lecturers and other UP employees and for students at UP. It regulates in detail the process of awarding the best teachers for outstanding educational activities at UP, the election of the best teachers is carried out through elections in two rounds, the awarding is carried out in two categories: the Award for the best teacher with teaching experience in an academic environment up to five years (Teaching Junior Award) and the Award for the best teacher with teaching experience in an academic environment over five years (Teaching Senior Award).

   

• Social scholarships at UP for the period September–December 2024

  This UP internal standard, effective from 30 September, (in Czech) is intended for students and other UP employees. It sets the amount of the social grant for the September-December 2024 scholarship period.

All UP standards, including the ineffective ones, divided by UP units, with the possibility of filtering and searching in them can be found by students and employees of UP after logging in to files.upol.cz.
