The University will commemorate the anniversary of the Velvet Revolution

UP will commemorate this year's anniversary of 35 years since the Velvet Revolution with several events, including the participation of members of the former student strike committee, and part of the programme will also take place in cooperation with the city of Olomouc. In the premises of the Faculty of Philosophy in Křížkovského Street, panels with photographs and information about the Velvet Revolution of 1989 at UP will be placed throughout the week before the 17 November holiday. On Sunday afternoon, a festive launch of the book My Friend Josef Jařab is planned in the faculty auditorium, in which friends of the first post-revolutionary rector of UP remember this unique personality. There will also be a screening of documents depicting the Olomouc Revolution.

In the early evening, families with children in particular can enjoy a lantern procession, which will march accompanied by the Olomouc Military Music from the Square of the Republic to the building of the UP Faculty of Law. At exactly 5 p.m. and 11 minutes, the commemoration will begin at the monument to the fighters for freedom and democracy in front of the Faculty of Law, the former seat of the Communist Party. One of the most prominent Olomouc figures of the November Revolution and post-revolutionary events, Josef Jařab, will also be commemorated a day earlier by unveiling a sculpture with his likeness by Olomouc artist Radomír Surma.

Launch of a publication on 30 years of the student literary competition

The launch of the publication LS 30: Looking Back at 3 Decades of the UP Student Literary Competition (in Czech) will take place on Monday 11 November at 8 pm at the Jazz Tibet Club in Olomouc. The almanac published by the UP Publishing House contains an insight into the history of the competition, whose birth in 1993 was due to the first post-Soviet rector of UP, Professor Josef Jařab, and a selection of poetry by the award-winning authors and poet Radek Malý. The event will include an author reading and musical accompaniment by Jan Žamboch and his Wolf Lost in the Poem. The event takes place as part of a festival of student creativity FFest (in Czech). Mountain race Rabštejnský kocour & volleyball tournament

On Saturday, November 2, the Akademik sport centre of UP will organize the Rabštejnský kocour (in Czech) mountain race. Participants will run almost 14 kilometres from Libina to Velký Rabštejn. You can register online and on the spot, more at www.rabstejnskykocour.cz.

ASC UP also invites volleyball enthusiasts to the 63rd International Mixed Team Volleyball Tournament (in Czech). It will take place on November 13 in the UP Sports Hall.

Photographer Jindřich Štreit in law faculty

The Faculty of Law invites you to a composite programme Million Ideas. The main guest will be Professor Jindřich Štreit, one of the most famous Czech documentary photographers. The programme will take place on the occasion of the exhibition of photographs Law and Us, which will be installed at the Faculty of Arts of the University of Applied Sciences in November. Jindřich Štreit will present his photographs, and songs by Stanislav Hyrák will be performed, accompanied by Vojtěch Szabó on the accordion. A discussion will follow.
