Dear employees,

As the academic year schedule suggests, the summer semester started on Monday and classes are already underway at most faculties. Those who stroll the streets, parks and waterfronts must have noticed how the university town has come alive again. The university calendar and our newsletter are filling up as well, bringing you operational information, lecture and course offers, invitations to events and challenges, and a selection of articles from the past 14 days.

WHAT’S GOING ON AT UP

Briefly from the UP management meeting

At the last management meeting (29 January), the announcement of junior grants for 2026 and the selection procedure for the UP Bursar were discussed. A methodological guideline on the Treatment of Reputational Risks when renting premises at UP is being prepared. Read the full summary (in Czech) (after logging in the UP Portal), we will prepare another one for you in 14 days. More detailed information will be subsequently available in the minutes of the management meeting in UPShare, as well as in the minutes of other bodies, in UP standards and documents and on other information platforms.

More secure passwords for UP systems

All those working and studying at UP will have to change their passwords for logging into the university systems to a more secure form in the coming weeks. In addition, passwords will have to be changed once a year. You can find out more in the UP Portal.

Hiding employees' private email addresses

Private e-mail addresses have been hidden on the UP Portal and in the business card on the UP website. This change is part of the efforts to increase the privacy and security of users. If necessary, you can set the display of your private e-mail address on the Portal and the public web business card in the Portal in the section My profile – Show on card / Detail.

Update of buildings for crisis alerts in the UP application

Have you already downloaded UPlikace, an official UP mobile app, through which you can receive a building-specific crisis alert in case of an emergency at UP? If not, read more and download. If so, your selected buildings will be updated with the new semester as follows:

If you are a teacher, on Tuesday, February 18, the buildings in which you will have active classes (scheduling action) in STAG at that time during the summer semester will automatically be activated for crisis notification. Any buildings you have previously added yourself will not be automatically removed. You can manually edit the selected buildings at any time in the crisis communication settings (under the More menu), i.e. add more or remove those that are no longer relevant to you (for example from the winter term) – where you will no longer be present.

Nothing automatically changes for non-academic staff. You can manually edit the selected buildings at any time in the crisis communication settings (in the More menu).

Jan Stanek, an independent promoter of electromobility and renewable energy (known as Electro Dad), inspires you to think about the future and the personal choices that affect it. CHALLENGES

Don't forget to move: try climbing or dancing

It is not only the endless winter that you can overcome with regular exercise. Thanks to the offer of the Akademik Sport Centre UP, everyone can find their favourite activity – it is really wide. You can sign up for individual classes, such as hatha yoga, tae-bo, stage dance or salsa and zouk. There are also long-term courses on offer (tennis, swimming or equestrian). Save discarded books from the UP Library for 5 CZK

The offer includes subjects such as literature, history, psychology or law; there is also mathematics, biology or architecture and, of course, fiction.
