WHAT’S GOING ON AT UP

Briefly from the UP management meeting

At the last management meeting (12 March), the upcoming cyber security audit at UP was discussed. Read the full summary (in Czech) (after logging in the UP Portal), we will prepare another one in 14 days. More detailed information will be subsequently available in the minutes of the management meeting in UPShare, as well as in the minutes of other bodies, in UP standards and documents and on other information platforms.

Easter holidays (Maundy Thursday)? Children allowed!

For children who have Easter holidays on Thursday 17 April, the University has prepared a leisure programme (in Czech) at the Fort Science, AC Baluo and the UP Library. Afterwards, they can visit their parents' workplace and have lunch from the children's menu in the canteen. After lunch, parents and children can go home and work from home for the rest of the day through telecommuting. The programme can be found on the website. (in Czech)

Planned STAG outage

On Friday, March 28, there will be a scheduled shutdown of STAG between 8:00 pm and 11:00 pm. Downtime is subject to change. 

VPN connection restrictions

If you are connecting remotely to the UP network via VPN, check which IP address you are using. As of April 1, only one connection will be temporarily provided, using the IP address 158.194.254.162. Instructions for connecting to the VPN on different systems can be found here. So please do not use 158.194.254.166 temporarily.

Change in Entry Conditions to the United Kingdom – Electronic Travel Authorisation (ETA)

The UP Welcome Office informs that, as of April 2, 2025, citizens of EU will be required to obtain an Electronic Travel Authorisation (ETA) for short-term visits to the United Kingdom. This requirement applies to students, workers, and other travelers. Applications for an ETA can be submitted online via mobile application. The standard fee for an ETA will be set at £16 as of April 9, 2025. The processing time for an ETA application is expected to take approximately three days. Detailed information regarding eligibility and the application process can be found on the official website.

Applications for the Podnikavá hlava competition are open

Do you have an idea for a business and don't want to leave it lying in a drawer? Enter the Podnikavá hlava (in Czech) (‚Entrepreneurial Mind‘) competition, announced for the sixteenth time by the UP Science and Technology Park. Both students and UP employees can participate. Take the opportunity to have your business idea evaluated, get feedback from an expert jury and compete for valuable prizes. You can your idea until 20 May. The ten best projects will advance to the final round and workshops on pricing and pitching to investors are available for all registered contestants. The winning project will receive a grand prize of CZK 50,000, consultancy worth CZK 130,000, a one-year lease of a workplace at Element Coworking  (in Czech) or a discount on office rent. The winner of the Business Talent UP category will also receive CZK 5,000. Dates, rules, prizes and other information are available on the competition website (in Czech).

Introduction to Open Research – in English

Lifelong learning programme in English Introduction to Open Research is designed for early career researchers and PhD students at Palacký University Olomouc who wish to adopt and promote open research practices in their scholarly activities. It is tailored to researchers from different disciplines and does not require prior experience in open research.

How to Communicate Science – Spring Workshop Series

Would you like to get better at communicating science? Are you interested in how to popularize science with the support of UP, how to communicate with journalists and how to cooperate effectively with PR staff? Would you like to try speaking in front of the camera? Choose from a series of workshops to be held at UP during April and May. (in Czech)

The gender dimension in science and research

When is it and when is it not relevant to consider a possible sex or gender dimension in research and innovation? At the Gender Dimensions in Science and Research workshop you will learn how to effectively integrate gender and sexuality aspects into your projects and how to avoid common mistakes. The course is especially aimed at male and female scientists, project managers and managers, who will be helped to integrate the gender dimension into scientific research and to take it into account in the formulation of research questions, methodology and interpretation of results, which is a prerequisite for many European and national projects.

Course for teachers in Iceland: How to develop soft skills in students using the LOUIS tool

How to develop other skills such as information literacy, creativity or teamwork in teaching any subject? TALKS AND LECTURES

Procházka s... Karin Lednickou

The fifth talk in the university series Procházka s... will be about the Šikmý kostel / Slanted Church and Životice, a neglected region and the social impact of literature. The debate will take place on 3 April at 16:00 in the auditorium of the Faculty of Arts, Křížkovského 10. Admission is free, but for capacity reasons it is necessary to register. In the meantime, you can watch a recording of the last talk with Daniel Stach.

Element Talks – Psychology (in) marketing

Do you think you're not impressed by advertising right now? What makes us subconsciously choose one brand over another? What are the psychological principles behind successful advertising and when is it purely a data-driven decision from a marketer's perspective? On 9 April, we will discuss these and other questions with UX psychologist Romana Mazalová and marketing specialist Pavel Jeník. Seating capacity is limited, don't forget to register (in Czech).

Come climb

The Faculty of Physical Culture invites all sportswomen and athletes across the university to the UP Rope Climbing Championship. The traditional sports competition will take place on Tuesday, April 8 at 5 pm in the Hynais Gymnasium, climbing on a 4.5-meter rope and in the open category also on an 8-meter rope.   • Preparation of the annual report on the activities of UP for 2024
    This internal standard, effective as of 20 March 2025,
    affects the UP employees who prepare the UP Annual Activity Report 2024, the Vice-Rectors and the Bursar. It regulates the preparation of the UP Annual Activity Report 2024 and sets out the Framework Outline of the UP Annual Activity Report 2024.


    All UP standards, including the ineffective ones, divided by UP units, with the possibility of filtering and searching in them can be found by students and employees of UP after logging in to files.upol.cz.
