At the last management meeting (26 March), preparations for the expansion of lifelong learning programmes with a microcertificate at UP were discussed. Unchanged passwords can make it difficult to log into university systems or email

From February 2025, all those working and studying at UP are gradually being asked to change their passwords for logging into university systems on the UP Portal, SAP and STAG. The reason for this is to strengthen UP's cybersecurity. If you do not change your password in time, access to your account may be blocked and you will need to reset your password. Please see this article for more information on the password change process. Check the UP Portal (after logging in) to see if you are prompted to change your password!

Easter menu and canteen opening hours

Tradition dictates that we dine on Maundy Thursday on something green – that is why this year you will find not only spinach but also other green ingredients on the Easter menu of our canteens. Please also note the shortened opening hours of the canteens on Maundy Thursday (until 14:30), FreshUPs close at 16:00.

Celebrate Earth Day with UP

We owe everything we have to the Earth. This year, you can celebrate Earth Day, which falls on 22 April every year, by taking part in one of the themed creative and workshop activities. Give your clothes a new lease of life, change your room decorations or make an eco-drug from chestnuts. In the UP canteens you can look forward to a wider range of meat-free meals. Two days full of popularization and communication of science

How to teach, share and bring science closer to everyone – from students to the public? The Metamorphosis conference is a unique popularisation event under the banner of Researchers’ Night, where two days of inspiring talks, hands-on workshops and unforgettable encounters await. AFO celebrates 60 – be there

Olomouc Majáles of Palacký University lights up the city

This year's May celebrations will not only affect the Armoury/Zbrojnice and Biskupské náměstí, but also the reopened Letňák / Summer cinema, Konvikt, Olomouc clubs and the Telegraph. And when? Three days – from 13th to 15th May. The music programme this year will offer a taste of all genres – from dulcimer music and Latin rhythms to the ageless Mňága and Žďorp together with dance legends Skyline to the fresh Angel prize winner rapper Annet X and psychedelic Bert & Friends. What will Divadelní flora theatre festival bring to Olomouc this year?

The international multi-genre festival Divadelní Flora will offer 60 events in Olomouc from 9 to 19 May under the theme Equality. You can already view the programme on the website and secure seats for the greatest hits in the pre-sale from 14 April. And because UP is a partner of the festival again this year, we will be holding a competition for tickets to selected performances in the next newsletter. 

SPORT

UP Sports Day will offer a chess tournament and a unique educational walk

The UP Sports Day will take place on Wednesday 14 May. The Rector's leave is announced for this day and all physical activities are free for university employees and students. A rich programme ranging from yoga to archery or canoeing and paddleboard to sauna has been prepared by the UP Academic Sports Centre (ASC). A hiking tour will lead to the site of the massacre at the Švédské šance near Přerov and this year the Jiří Hronek Memorial Running Competition will not be missing either. Basketball playoffs

Basketball fans should mark the date of April 16 on their calendars. On this day, the UP Sports Hall will be alive with the playoffs of this year's University Basketball League (in Czech) and both the women's and men's teams from Palacký University will be playing for advancement to the Final 4. Come dressed in white to support your teammates!

UP Athletics Championship

This year, the UP Athletics Championship (in Czech) will also open the summer athletics season in Olomouc, where athletes from across the university can compete on Wednesday 23 April. There will be competitions in running (from 60 to 1500 metres) and technical events such as long jump, shot put or javelin throw. The authors of the best performances will be awarded the Dean's Prize of the organizing FTK UP.

Olomouc runs for the planet

Run through Smetanovy sady park and support the non-profit organization Save Balikpapan Bay, specifically their Education4Conservation project, which connects practical conservation and environmental education in Indonesia, Africa, and also in the Czech Republic. The charity student event Olomouc Runs for the Planet (in Czech) will take place on May 13 and is also part of the accompanying program of the Olomouc UP Majáles.
