Palacký University again invites alumni for reunion

Meeting again, to be together for a while.

“We’re UP for it!” – this is the motto for the Palacký University alumni meeting on 8 September in Olomouc. The university continues in the contemporary tradition of bringing together its former students, commenced in 2016, when several thousand alumni arrived and flooded the streets of Olomouc. In 2017, UP’s alumni gathering expanded to the country’s capital with a summer party on the Vltava River. This year’s reunion returns to the alma mater’s campus: the Armoury Library court and the nearby city wall ramparts-gardens will be the focal point for the social programme and alumni gathering.

The reunion will take place on 8 September – the same time when European Heritage Days are celebrated. “This term worked great for us during the first reunion. Many alumni brought their relatives with them and used the time to see the university grounds as well as the historic Olomouc sights which are normally not open to the public. Therefore we will use the mutual synergy of the university and the city in order to interlink our programmes,” said UP Vice-Rector, Petr Bilík.

The day-long programme will be launched at 10 am, offering events at the Armoury and nearby gardens as well as individual programmes at all eight UP faculties. “The city wall ramparts-gardens will host a relaxation zone with refreshments, while the Armoury court will offer visitors the opportunity to try local brews and wines; however, music will prevail. In addition to a DJ playing music of all styles and genres, a very interesting musician accepted our invitation. Since this will be an outdoor party, our musical surprise will perform in a matching style,” hinted Eva Blažková from the UP Conference Service.

Those who will want to see with their own eyes how Palacký University has changed in recent years may attend the individual programmes organised by its faculties, mainly consisting of commented tours in their facilities. Visitors will have the opportunity to find out more about the services and devices at the BALUO Application Centre; to observe the successful renovation of buildings at the Faculty of Arts; to admire Olomouc from the terrace of the Faculty of Science and to conquer Fort Science; to learn about the history of the oldest and youngest faculties – the Faculty of Theology and the Faculty of Health Sciences; to see an exhibition at the Faculty of Law; or to take part in a tour led by the dean of the Faculty of Medicine and Dentistry through the new building of the Theoretical Institutes. “The overall offer, however, will be more abundant, since the individual faculties contribute to the programme too, so our former students will be able to meet with their schoolmates as well as some of the teachers,” said Eva Blažková.
