A hike, a run through Olomouc parks, and dozens of team and individual sporting disciplines are traditionally on offer during UP Sports Day. The activities are being offered to students and employees on Wednesday 10 May, which has been declared a Rector’s Holiday, with classes cancelled. For the first time a chess tournament will be held, as well as a ‘Superride Expedition’, and an evening party at Poděbrady pond. A fun afternoon full of entertainment for adults and children alike is being prepared at the UP Academic Sports Centre (ASC).

Traditionally, ASC offers a rich programme of activities and sports for both groups and individuals on Sports Day, and this year is no exception. All events and activities are free for UP students and staff; registration is via the ASC website.

The programme offers morning yoga, pilates, indoor cycling, archery, canoeing, and yachting. There will be team sports tournaments in volleyball, foot volleyball, five-a-side football, basketball, floorball, and beach volleyball. You can also take part in functional training with a coach, or head to the sauna or weights room. Novel sports like lacrosse, kinball (played with a gigantic ball), and frisbee are also on offer. And a zumba party offers movement training in rhythm to music.

The day will be capped off by a social afternoon on the lawn in front of the boat house, with an accompanying entertainment programme, refreshments, and a tombola.

Students from other faculties also preparing programmes this year

In honour of this year’s 450th UP Jubilee, the Communications Department is preparing an excursion to the family home of František Palacký and a tour of the local sights. The number of participants is limited; applications are open until 8 May here.

For several years now the UP Faculty of Science Department of Computer Science has been holding the Jiří Hronek Memorial Run – a run through Olomouc’s parks, offering six different distances from a leisurely 5K to a proper 42 km marathon.

The first UP chess tournament will be held by UP students in cooperation with the SC A64 Olomouc chess club and the Faculty of Science. The tournament will follow the Swiss system – 6 rounds with 20 minutes per game. There will be small prizes for the best players. Registration is open until Friday here.

Students of the UP Faculty of Physical Culture Department of Adapted Physical Activities are heading out on a ‘Superride Expedition’. Participants can experience the world of people with special needs. The course runs from the Neředín campus of the faculty to Poděbrady pond, and though you can go on your own bike or scooter, you can also try out a handbike or tandem. At the finish line an accompanying programme will take place with live music and refreshments.

A fun afternoon for adults and children with live music, sports games, horse rides, and refreshments is being prepared as usual by UP ASC in the UP Sports Hall complex on the lawn in front of the boat house. From 3 pm on it will be possible to borrow equipment and give games like discgolf, foosball, speedminton, kubb, and mölkky a try.

The detailed UP Sports Day programme is available on the web.
