Manuscripts That Shaped Our History

We are thrilled to invite you on an extraordinary adventure through time with our historical texts tours. Established in 1573, Palacký University Library called Zbrojnice (Armoury, as it used to serve as one) has been a custodian of rare manuscripts, incunabula, and historical texts, reflecting the development of human thought and creativity. Our guided tours offer a unique opportunity to explore these invaluable texts with the expert assistance of our library staff.

This tour is intended for anyone interested in how our great-great-grandfathers and great-great-grandmothers lived and enjoyed themselves, or those who are looking for non-traditional entertainment, instruction and inspiration for their own creations. These prints were not intended for quiet entertainment in the corner but for singing and telling stories. As you journey through our library, you'll marvel at the intricate details and exquisite craftsmanship of these ancient texts. Our guides will describe the historical context of each manuscript, shedding light on the cultural, religious, and intellectual circumstances that shaped their creation.

Explore Olomouc and University Landmarks

The Palacký University Welcome Office extends a warm invitation to all international students and staff for our semesterly guided tours of Olomouc and key university buildings. These tours are a fantastic way to explore not only the city's stunning churches, lively squares, and numerous historical landmarks but also to familiarize yourself with important places within the university. Immerse yourself in the rich history of Moravia and our esteemed university through these tours. We offer two such tours in both the winter and summer semesters.

Master the Art of Balance

Explore the world of Tai Chi, the renowned Chinese martial art known for its health and relaxation benefits. This summer semester, seize the unique opportunity to learn from Zdeněk Chmelka, a martial arts specialist who has dedicated his life to mastering Tai Chi techniques. Participate in our 60-minute sessions, offered at no cost and conducted in English that are carefully prepared for an international community at Palacký University Olomouc. Don't forget to bring comfortable clothing, shoes with white soles, a towel, and your favorite beverage.

Core Information For Your Stay at Palacký University

An event for new degree students who are looking to get information about their studies, visas, or student life in Olomouc.

We will present you with comprehensive information about the Czech Republic and Olomouc, followed by information about Palacký University and its online systems and a presentation about residency documents and visas. Furthermore, we will provide you with information about health care in the Czech Republic. We will also inform you about organisations which focus on helping students such as Erasmus Student Network (they help degree students as well) or The Support Centre for Students with Special Needs. After the presentations and lectures, there is a guided tour around Olomouc covering the most important sights and parts of the history and also some useful tips regarding shops, pubs, and such.

On request, it is possible to do a similar event for international employees or even do a “micro” orientation day during the semester.
