Dear employees,

right at the beginning of this newsletter, we unfortunately have to deal with the current situation in which we all find ourselves and which affects us both on and off campus. The rules are changing rapidly, with the latest ones so far in effect as of Monday, November 22. The changes mainly affect the hosting of group events, where it is now (with some exceptions) impossible to prove yourself by test, and accommodation in the dormitories, where the self-test are no longer valid. The University Crisis Council and the Student Chamber of the UP Academic Senate are also calling for compliance with the measures. An employee testing system is also currently being developed, information will be available on coronaweb in the coming days.

Do you work with electronic resources? Take the survey!
The importance of electronic information resources is greater than ever. The UP Library offers and manages a wealth of them, and now you have a unique opportunity to reward them. How? By filling out a short survey about how you use these resources or which ones you miss. The results of this survey will be used to improve services in the area of e-resources and also to optimize the offer of e-resources available at Palacký University. The questionnaire is online for filling in until 15 December 2021 here (in Czech).

Become professionals in culture and creative fields!
It may not be overnight, but you can take the first step on Wednesday 1 December. A dedicated block of presentations will offer a definition of the modern term "cultural and creative industries" and, above all, advice on how to find an internship or start a business in the CCI sector. You will learn what types of entities exist (non-profit and commercial sector, self-employed) and what rules you can expect when entering employment, freelancing or during the process of setting up a company. The lecturers Petr Bilík and Ondřej Kročil will also provide you with practical guidance for successful integration into practice during your studies or after graduation.

The lecture block is especially suitable for students/graduates in fields related to information technology, art, culture, media, linguistics, management, marketing, leisure, pedagogy and education. For more information, visit the UP Career Centre website (in Czech) and Facebook event (in Czech).

Akademik sport centre will solve St. Nicholas and Christmas
Looking for a St. Nicholas for your children or grandchildren this year? You don't have to anymore, because the Akademik Sport Centre UP has prepared – as every year – a St. Nicholas show with a program full of songs, skits and dances. Children will not miss out on St. Nicholas packages with goodies, but also with potatoes. The event will take place on Tuesday 7 December in the Faculty of Education auditorium. Details and registration form including prices of admission and packages can be found on the ASC UP website (in Czech).

In addition to St. Nicholas, the center can also help you with Christmas or birthday gifts. Get your loved ones a gift certificate for archery, fitness or sauna. More information here (in Czech).

Get rewarded for your research
Don't miss out on the chance to capitalise on the results of your scientific research! You only have until Tuesday 30 November to apply for the 24th Werner von Siemens Prize (in Czech) for students, scientists and teachers in the technical and natural sciences (including medicine, IT etc.). There are eight categories and a total of CZK 900,000 for the winners. The winners will be determined by an independent expert jury of 60 representatives from universities, colleges, the Academy of Sciences and other scientific institutions. Details can also be found in the University Journal article (in Czech).
